IE6, You're Ugly and Stupid So Go Away
If you're a designer, you can certainly commiserate with me on the pain of dealing with IE6, the ugly step sister of browsers. It's no joke to say that making a design work and look good for Internet Explorer 6 - with the float bugs, margin bugs, odd white-space issues, and myriad other rendering quirks and oddities - can triple a project budget and timeline. We've all been there, cranking out code in record time, only to have a client say something looks funky in IE6. And then you spend 4 more days trying to track down the problem.
So when it came time to design my own website, I decided to leave IE6 in the dust. I forgot it existed.
Then, oddly, Google analytics reported 26 visitors to my site who had used IE6!! Granted, this is 26 people out of about 10,000, so it's a paltry percentage. Nevertheless, I did not want someone using the ancient and evil browser to see my website in such a terrible fashion. So, I made them a special design. Something only users of IE6 will see, using Internet Explorer's conditional comments.
For your pleasure, here's a view of what they see:

Love Firefox! Even better than Safari to me! Great article. The duct tape rules too! (http://www.ducttapeguys.com) ;)
I wish I could get away with leaving ie6 in the dust for work projects. The owner where I work still uses ie6 though.
Creative way to welcome ie6 users!
Very amusing idea...I like it. But you don't need an apostrophe in "its" (enjoy this site to its fullest)
Doh! Thanks Patti!
That is brilliant. Hats off to you, sir.
I wish it were that easy to tell people to upgrade their browser. The sad fact is that there are many business applications that were written with IE6 as the interface. This is why so many retail, banking, and medical businesses still mandate that their employees use IE6. The day-to-day applications for IE6 have not advanced. It's not just that they are lazy. If you deal with B-to-B, then you have to deal with IE6.
Thanks Ricki! :)
@Gloria: Noted. While I understand the reason IE6 is still in existence, it doesn't mean I enjoy working around it's quirks and failures. This was just a way to let off some steam and have some fun.
Truth is, a prospective client was extremely confused when he got here using IE6! We had a good laugh and now he's using my services - and Firefox.
